Hi friends,

The citizens of Stone County will celebrate its 100th birthday in May 2016. There will be many activities taking place throughout the year. Stone County, Mississippi was the last home and burial place of Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Jay Hanna "Dizzy" Dean. He and his wife Patricia Nash Dean, lived at their beautiful homeplace called "Deanash" until their deaths. They are buried in nearby Bond Cemetery , which is just north of Wiggins. It is also the home of Flint Creek Water Park, part of the Pat Harrison Waterway District. The Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College "Bulldogs" is also located here in our county.

The Stone County Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) group will be operating special event station, K5STO, to commemorate the centennial anniversary beginning May 1, 2016 at 0001Z and ending May 31, 2016 at 2359Z. We will be using our ARES station call sign, K5STO.

Operating frequencies for our special event will be on SSB close to 3.862 (80M), 7.210 (40m), 14.280 (20m), and 18.158 (17m). Other frequencies and modes may be used as well and will be posted on the DX clusters. Our special event operation will continue through December 31, 2016 with a random and varied schedule, just to give other stations the opportunity to work Stone County and to showcase the year long centennial celebration.

There are approximately 8 active ham operators on HF in Stone County. It would be a great time work Stone County for CQ Worked All Counties or other awards. It's not a rare county but sometimes difficult to find us.
